Obituary of Barbara L. Kozey
Barbara L. Kozey, age 78, of Seymour, entered into eternal rest, surrounded by her loving family on February 18, 2019, at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven Health. Born in New Haven on October 29, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Orville and Helen L. Berrien Warner. Mrs. Kozey was a lifelong valley resident and 1958 graduate of Ansonia High School. She worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide for the Birmingham, Lord Chamberlain and Hewitt Health Care Centers before her employment at Griffin Hospital, where she worked until the time of her retirement. Mrs. Kozey enjoyed watching her regular TV shows, especially General Hospital, the Holidays and attending her church and supporting its festivals. She loved all animals, particularly the family dogs and dragonflies. She will be long remembered for her golden heart and her special love for her family. She is survived by her devoted children, Laura Carr of Seymour, Karrie (Joseph) Dahn of Seymour, Todd (companion, Suzanne Beardsley) Kozey of Derby, and Nicholas S. Kozey III of Shelton; cherished grandchildren, Vanessa (Harvey) St. John and Elissa (Thomas) Barche of FL, Nicholas John Robert Kozey and John A. Kozey of Shelton, Brandon (fiancé Kara Gouse) Carr of Orange, Jane Kozey of NYC, Leanna Dahn of Naugatuck and Kathryn Kozey of Seymour; great grandchildren, Layla St. John, Thomas and Addilynn Barche, all of FL; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Ziggy Kozey and sisters, Joan Warner and Joyce Kross. Funeral services will take place on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in the Cathedral Church of the Resurrection, 6 Church St., Ansonia. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. All are encouraged to wear something purple in honor of Barbara and her favorite color.
