Obituary of Richard Symeon Bruchal

Attorney Richard Symeon Bruchal died peacefully on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Griffin Hospital following a brief illness.  He was born in Derby on September 18, 1937, the son of the late Symeon Andrew Bruchal and Julia Bedron Bruchal.  Attorney Bruchal was a lifelong Naugatuck Valley resident, practicing law in Seymour and Ansonia for more than 50 years. Dick graduated from Shelton High School in 1955.  He earned a BA from Yale University in 1959 and his LL.B. from Cornell Law School in 1962.  In 1968, he earned an MA in history from Trinity College in Hartford.  Dick was active in politics, serving as Chairman of the Seymour Democratic Town Committee.  He worked as Town Counsel for Seymour Democratic First Selectman, Anna Lo Presti, during her two terms from 1973 to 1977. Dick also served the Seymour Republican First Selectman, Robert J. Koskelowski, as Town Counsel from 1983 to 1993.  Ansonia Mayor, Nancy Valentine, appointed him as her Corporation Counsel from 1995 to 1999.  He also served as the attorney for the Seymour WPCA.  Attorney Bruchal is survived by his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Richard S. Bruchal, Jr. and Shannon McMahon Bruchal of Stratford.
