Our Aunt Donna was a dynamic woman with a heart of gold. She mentored to me in many ways, from giving the opportunity to experience her fine city, to teaching me the most efficient way to shop and travel wisely. Aunt Donna was filled with excitement, knowledge, and with which she would share on many occasions in her nurturing way. There was never a dull moment in her home!
I was fortunate to spend time in 1977 with my Aunt Donna, Uncle Nat and my cousins Michael and Paul in New York City. It was the first time I had traveled solo as a young lady, and a trip I will always cherish. Aunt Donna took me under her wing and treated me as one of her own. It was a big trip for me in 1977 and a lifetime experience that Aunt Donna made sure was a very special event for me. Aunt Donna was also well known for her cooking skills. When you sat down for a meal, Aunt Donna would have prepared the finest dining experience, from Cornish game hens to fresh lox and bagels for breakfast. She truly was the original New York’s finest master chief!
I have very fond memories which are too numerous to share here. I am honored to have had such a special person to look up to and will miss her dearly. To this day I find myself passing on Donna’s same travel advice and shopping tips to my two daughters. I admire the way Donna cared for her family and respect the love and affection she shared with all!
It was always an exciting time each summer when Aunt Donna and Uncle Nat would bring our cousins for a visit to the farm back in Ohio. My family always looked forward to those special times when we would gather around the picnic table for a yummy meal and share our life stories at an evening fire. I remember watching Neil Armstrong walk on the moon in 1969 together with Donna and my family. Those memories are like yesterday!
Lots of Love,
Connie

It is my honor and privilege to call Donna my sister. She was away from home by the time I came along, but we had many good times together when Donna and Nat would come to visit in Ohio or Mom, Dad, & I would go visit them in NYC. The hospitality they gave us was beyond words including giving up their bed, taking us all over NYC, literally rolling out a red carpet, and fabulous meals. It was fun shopping with Donna who was always looking for a bargain and for many years would share coupons with us. Donna was such a giving person that when they came to Ohio Donna was always loaded with things to give others and wanted to help with food and preparation for our family gatherings. She always wanted to have something to give when we would visit various families. Donna was very proud of her two sons, Mike and Paul, and their accomplishments. Donna would call Mom and I each week and her boys were often the theme of our conversation. Donna greatly appreciated the care Mike and Anne gave her when she was in NYC and selfless care from Paul and Fran when she was with them in their home. She would always say she was being well cared for. I am thankful for great memories and blessing Donna was to me and many others.

It is an honor and difficult to write a fitting tribute for one so dear. As the younger sister, I always looked up to Donna and admired her talent for decorating, entertaining, cooking, etc. Oh my! the luscious dishes that came out of her kitchen!! - leg of lamb, roast turkey, chicken cacciatore ,etc. She had an elegance about her that defies description. She was a very intelligent lady and well informed on current events. It was always an exciting and special time when they came for a visit to Ohio and, equally so when we would go to visit in NYC. Donna and Nat were quite the pair and made us feel welcome and would want to show us special places in their neck of the woods :-) Donna was so proud of her family and raised 2 great sons. The mutual respect, admiration and love of Mike and Paul for each other is a precious, beautiful tribute to Donna and Nat. Mike recently told me that his brother, Paul is a hero for the way he and Fran took care of his Mom. Mike and Anne's love, kindness and support was such a blessing to to her. Paul and Fran are deeply, deeply appreciated and admired for the care they gave for Donna. Donna would ALWAYS say: "they take GOOD care of me", "I'm in a happy home", "...and they are GOOD cooks!" We are so blessed to have such good and happy memories.

I have fond memories of Donna and still have a letter she wrote me when she said I looked like Richard Greer! She was always positive and was genuinely interested in the person with whom she was talking. I can't remember her ever speaking bad about a person. When we would visit them in NYC they were the "hosts with the most" going to great lengths to make sure we were comfortable and cared for. What a tribute to her that she raised raised 2 fine sons! Donna and Nat were a special pair and fun to be around. They each had their own unique sense of humor and positive outlook on life. Donna was loved by many and thoughts of her always bring a smile. She will be missed.

During our annual visits to Connecticut is was always a joy when we were able to visit with Donna. She was always so pleasant and was a great conversationalist - a great listener and storyteller. Talking and visiting with her was always enjoyable. We have nothing but fond memories of her. She will be missed.

Tante Donna. That’s what Herbert Breslin called her and I can’t think of a more endearing term. My heart overflows with fond memories of childhood visits to NYC – how she and Uncle Nat tirelessly shepherded us all over the city. My first trip to Chinatown with them as she went from one Chinese restaurant to another gathering takeout for a feast back at their apartment. The leg of lamb dinners around her table – what I wouldn’t give for her leg of lamb right now – the anticipated trips to the diner which for several years were a monthly ritual…she was a foodie, for sure. I loved talking to her about anything – she was curious about everything and knowledgeable about much. I particularly loved listening to her stories about enlisting in the Navy, her time in Miami, and early days with Nat. When they reminisced together, she would reach over and grab the top of his hand. Her passing has left a hole, but her light shines on: the world above and below is a little brighter because she was and is.

Aunt Donna will always hold a special place in our hearts. I don't have to work hard to recall the way she would sit at the table, the interest she'd show in others, her laugh, her smile. I will always cherish the memories of when we visited Nat and Donna in New York City. It was the first time I had lox for breakfast, and I didn't care for it much. (What did I know in the 4th grade?? Now I love it!!) I also remember her making her famous chicken cacciatore, playing pinball machine, and walking to some restaurant-- can't remember the name, but I got the sense they were regulars and loved by many. Paul & Fran, Mike & Anne, you have shown great honor to your mother. Your care for her, especially in these last days, is a true inspiration. Losing a loved one is never easy, but I hope you find comfort in knowing you have loved her well.
