Obituary of Katherine Pawchyk
Katherine Budzinsky Pawchyk, age 94 of Orange, beloved wife of the late Peter Pawchyk, Sr., died peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2018, at the West River Rehab Center, Milford. A lifelong resident of Orange, she was born on May 5, 1923, to the late Alexander and Eva Jelasko Budzinsky.
Mrs. Pawchyk was a graduate of Hillhouse High School, New Haven, where she played girls’ basketball, a sport she loved and followed throughout her life. In 1941, she started work at Vought-Sikorsky as an expeditor and remained until she started her family in 1947. In 1965 she returned to work at Sikorsky Aircraft as a stock chaser and retired after a total of 34 years of service. She was an avid bowler in her younger years and participated in many leagues and teams. She was a devoted member of Three Saints Orthodox Church, Ansonia.
She is survived by sister, Anna B. Crocker of Milford; grandchildren, Greggor (Melinda) Bateman of Orange, Tyler (Dorota) Bateman of Wallingford, Victoria (Thomas) Ostlund of MN, Justin (Stacey) Bednarz of Marlborough and Jordan Bednarz of Marlborough; sons-in law, Paul Bednarz of MA and Robert Bateman of MA; great-grandchildren, Alana, Vera, Summer and Audrey, nephew Alfred (Eileen) Nedovich of Orange, and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by son, Peter Pawchyk, Jr.; daughters, Deborah Ann Bednarz and Susan Bateman; sister, Mary Nedovich; and brothers, William Susko and John Budzinsky.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11:30 AM in Three Saints Orthodox Church, 26 Howard Ave., Ansonia. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Family and friends may call at Three Saints Church Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, prior to the service.
