Obituary of John T. Tsakonas

 John T. Tsakonas, age 96 of Newtown, beloved husband of the late Doris Craft Tsakonas, died peacefully on December 16, 2017 at Masonicare of Newtown. Born August 7^th, 1921 in Brooklyn, CT, he was the son of the late Theodore and Vasiliki Tsakonas Mr. Tsakonas was raised in Danielson, was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and graduated from Killingly High School.  He was a longtime resident of Ansonia before moving to Newtown in 2010.  Together with his wife Doris and sister Irene, Mr. Tsakonas owned and operated the former Vonete’s Palace of Sweets, of Ansonia for over 20 years, until the time of their retirement.  He was a member of the King Hiram Lodge #12 of Shelton for over 50 years, enjoyed swimming, Ansonia football and UCONN Athletics- especially basketball.  He is survived by his step-children, Edward (Penny) Tackach of FL, David Tackach of MO, and Sharyn Daley of CA; grandchildren, Heather (Jason) Woods of CA, David (Candy) Tackach of Ansonia and Schuyler Tackach of Ansonia; great-grandchildren, Dillon, Amber, Zachary and Jacob, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Helen Skelly, Col. Charles Tsakonas, Irene Aliferis, Pauline Murphy, Penita Tsakonas, George Tsakonas, Mary Meehan and Basil Tsakonas.  Private interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.  The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia is in care of arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
