Obituary of Marcus Dimon

Dimon, Marcus WileyM. Wiley Dimon, of Shelton, CT., 96, died Monday, June 9, 2008, at Shady Knoll Health Center, Seymour. Born June 28, 1911 in Huntington, CT, he was the eldest son of eight children of the late Frederick B. & Leah E. (Beckwith) Dimon. Wiley was a 9th generation descendent of Thomas Dimon, the first provable ancestor of the Dimon Family of Fairfield, CT who settled Fairfield prior to 1650. Wiley was a life long resident of White Hills and lived on a portion of the family homestead on Beardsley Road, where the original salt-box house stood. He was a graduate of Shelton High School and attended Pine Trade School, Ansonia, where he learned the machinist trade. Wiley worked on the family farm in White Hills and delivered milk with his mother and brothers by horse drawn wagon. He was self- taught in the carpentry trade and built and renovated numerous homes. During WWII, Wiley was a machinist at Bullards, Black Rock, and during the 1960s he worked as a machinist at Fultin Enterprises, Newtown. He owned and operated his own Flooring Maintenance Company and retired from this business after 20 years. Wiley was a freemason of Masonic Lodge, No. 12 of Connecticut for over 30 years and a life-long member of the United Methodist Church. He married the late Dorethea M. McAdams, in March, 1935. To this marriage he had three children, Marilyn R., Alan W. & Thomas F. Dimon. He later married Sylvia C. LaBar in Sept, 1955. To this marriage he had four sons, David M., Timothy G., Guy L. and Dale M. Dimon. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sylvia; daughter Marilyn White, Greenfield, Ma.; daughter-in-law Patricia Dimon, Lexington, Ky.; sons David Dimon, Potomac, Md.; Timothy & Dale Dimon, both of Seymour; two sisters, Shirley Cornut, Stepney and Hazel Curtis, Derby; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by sons Guy, Alan and Thomas, a sister Doris Blakeman and brothers, Earl, Kenneth, Bernard (Pete) and Alfred. Funeral services, meeting directly at church, will be held at United Methodist Church, Monroe, 515 Cutlers Farm Rd., Monroe, CT on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 11:00 AM, with a viewing hour from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Lawn Cemetery, Huntington, CT. Family and friends may call on Friday, June 13, 2008, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, CT.
