Obituary of Frank J. Charney

Frank J. Charney, Jr, “Bucky”, age 83, beloved husband of Irene E. Charney of Oxford, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven Health.  Born in Bridgeport on August 31, 1934, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Mary Duhancik Charney, Sr.  Mr. Charney was a lifelong resident of Stratford, before moving to Oxford just two months ago.  He worked as a supervisor for the Bridgeport Insulated Wire Co. for over 40 years, until his retirement in 1999.  Mr. Charney was a communicant of St. Mark Church and a coach for the North Stratford Little League while raising his sons.  Bucky was a popular golfer, bowler and softball player for many years, participating in several area leagues and was a member of FDIC, Stratford.  In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Craig (Kim) Charney of TX, Gary Charney of NC, and Karen (Terry) McIlhoney of Oxford; daughter-in-law, Michele Charney of Stratford; sister, Elizabeth (Jim) Magliochetti of FL; cherished grandchildren, Frank, Nicholas and Alexis Charney, Sonny and Cody Novotny, Alex Charney, Joseph Elwell, Jr. and David Elwell; great-grandson, David Elwell, Jr.; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a son, Brian Charney and a brother, Walter Charney.   A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford at 12:00 NOON on Friday, March 16, 2018.  Interment will be private.  The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia, is in care of arrangements.  The family wishes to thank the medical staff on the 15th floor and ICU of The Smilow Cancer Hospital for their compassionate care extended to Frank in his time of need.  Memorial Contributions may be made to Closer to Free Fund, Office of Development, P.O.
