John was a great person, and a close friend of mine. I work in the Dietary Dept. at Masonicare of Newtown, and became good friends with John. As I went past his room, I would stop in and talk daily, and sit with him on his bed with him sometimes and shoot the breeze. It was a favorite thing to do.I served him first and personally, in the dining room on the third floor over the years., and recently his favorite appetizers were feta cheese, and grapes--of course coming from his "True Greek"
heritage. A kind soul--but proud, and tough--we often talked about his punishment as a child if he misbehaved. He would look me in the eye, "BED, NO DINNER!" We laughed, and he always talked of his childhood memories of the lake in Danielson, where he was skinny dipping with friends, and his father was to teach them a lesson by stealing his clothes! 2 years ago, I arranged through Masonicare and Heather, for John to spend Thanksgiving with my wife and I, I couldn't stand the thought of him being alone--as many of our residents unfortunately are on holidays. Not him! We had a great time, and John was a true gentleman, as always. Although it only lasted a few short hours, the memories are etched in my mind, as I thank God for letting me know this wonderful man, friendships like this don't appear every day, they come from above... I will look for you John, we will meet again.
