Joseph Lemchak

Obituary of Joseph Lemchak

Joseph Lemchak, age 87, beloved husband of Ruth Kapusta Lemchak of Oxford, died peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at the Hospital of St. Raphael at Yale, surrounded by his family.  Born in Ansonia on March 8, 1930, he was the son of the late John and Anna Haczyc Lemchak.  Mr. Lemchak was a graduate of Pine Technical High School and together with his brothers, owned and operated the Lemchak Brothers’ Printers of Ansonia.  He then worked as a composer and printer for the New Haven Register for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1992.  Mr. Lemchak was a lifelong Communicant of St. Michael Church, Derby, as well as a member of the Polish Falcon and the Central Subalpi Clubs of Ansonia.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening and was a master propagator of Japanese red maple trees.  Skilled and handy by nature, Mr. Lemchak could often be found fixing projects about his home and autos.  Together with his wife Ruth, they would attend church festivals, dances and polka events; they’d often frequent different valley establishments and venues to enjoy live bands and acoustic music - the much younger clientele affectionately referred to them as “Grandpa & Grandma”.  Mr. Lemchak will be long remembered for his love and devotion for his wife and family - always supporting his children and grandchildren in their endeavors.  In addition to his wife of 60 years, Mr. Lemchak is survived by his devoted children, Joseph Lemchak, Jr. of NY, Janice Fama of MA, Susan Lemchak and Patricia Kamens, both of CA; seven cherished grandchildren and two cherished great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a beloved daughter, Diana Lemchak, and brothers, John and Alex Lemchak.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017, at 1:00 PM in the Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Mountain Rd., Seymour.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Meals on Wheels Program of TEAM Inc., 30 Elizabeth St., #1, Derby, CT 06418.  The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, is in care of arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
