Obituary of Stephen Chucta

Stephen Chucta, age 89 of Seymour, beloved husband of the late Alice Kuziak Chucta, died peacefully on June 18, 2017 in his home, surrounded by his family.  Born in Derby on January 22, 1928, he was the son of the late Max and Esther Hyra Chucta.  Mr. Chucta was a lifelong Seymour resident, raised on his family’s farm and graduated from Seymour High School in 1946.  At the age of 14, together with his brother John, he worked his family farm (and continued to farm well into his 80’s) delivering milk to many customers throughout the valley.  He learned the trade of well drilling at the S.B. Church Co. of Oxford and worked as a maintenance foreman for the B.F. Goodrich-Sponge Rubber Co. of Derby and the Seaboard Metal Refinishing Co. of West Haven, until the time of his retirement in 1993.  In 1947, Mr. Chucta was a founding member of the Great Hill Hose Company where he served as a Past Chief and dedicated volunteer for the last 70 years and was a 65 year member of the Seymour Grange. He served the Town of Seymour as Police Commissioner, a Member of the Board of Selectman and was the Chairman of the WPCA.  Mr. Chucta will be long remembered as a devoted man, first to his family, second to his community and lastly for setting an example for which to follow.  Always willing to speak his mind with total honesty and integrity, Mr. Chucta earned the respect of many in his personal and professional life.  He is survived by his devoted children and their spouses, Stephen H. (Doreen) Chucta of Seymour and Debra (John) Bekish of Southington; cherished grandchildren, Erica (Kevin) Bass, Stephen H. Chucta, Jr. and Jaisun (Nicole) Chucta; great-grandchildren, Harlen, Lani, Jaisun, Jr., Gianna, Taylor, Klhoe, Kolten and Charianne; brother, John Chucta of Seymour, as well as several nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Wetowitz. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.  Interment will be in Sts.
