Obituary of Manuel Joseph Caetano

Manuel Joseph Caetano, age 93 of Ansonia, beloved husband of the late Maria Neves Caetano, died peacefully on February 22, 2017 at Griffin Hospital, Derby. Born in Coentral Grande, Portugal, he was the son of the late Olympio and Maria Amelia Caetano. Mr. Caetano immigrated to the U.S. in 1934 and resided in Norwalk before moving to Ansonia over 20 years ago. A pious man, he was a Communicant of St. Mary's Church of Derby and formerly of St. Joseph's Church in Norwalk where he served on the Board of Directors as well as volunteered on numerous committees. Mr. Caetano was an employee of the Holson Photo Album Co. of Wilton, where he worked for many years prior to his retirement in 1988. He is survived by his devoted children, Robert (Susan) Caetano of Woodbridge and Mary (Robert) Mendenhall of FL; a sister, Josephine (Joaquim) Carvalho of Branford; cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Alan) Gagne of Bethany; Michael R. (Paula) Caetano of Milford; Michael Mendenhall of FL; great grandson, Sean Gagne of Bethany; and as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-one years, Maria Neves Caetano. Mr. Caetano was also predeceased by a sister, Herminia Carvalho. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 4 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Church, 212 Elizabeth Street, Derby. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, March 3 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Church.
