Obituary of Cecylia Mankus

Cecylia Mankus, age 79 of Bethany, beloved wife of the late John Mankus, died peacefully on September 12, 2016 at Griffin Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born in Ziomek, Poland on February 12, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Wincenty and Marianna Godzina. Mrs. Mankus immigrated to the U.S. in 1963 and was a long time Ansonia resident. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Church and an active member of the Women’s Guild. A homemaker, Mrs. Mankus enjoyed cooking, gardening and tending to her beautiful flower gardens. She is survived by her devoted children, Ursula (Ireneusz) Zajac of Bethany, Andrew (Jadwiga) Mankus of Ansonia, and Christine (David) Vasilas of Ansonia; cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Monica and Olivia Zajac; Samantha (Kevin) Tracy, Annette and Martyna Mankus; and Gabrielle (David) Martinez. In addition to her husband of 35 years, she was predeceased by 3 brothers in Poland. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 32 Jewett Street, Ansonia. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church.
