Obituary of Harriet Sokolnicki

Harriet Sroka Sokolnicki, age 93, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2015 at Griffin Hospital with her devoted son by her side. Mrs. Sokolnicki was born on the Sroka farm on Ford Street in Ansonia – a daughter of the late Stanley and Mary Moskal Sroka. She was the wife of the late Edward J. Sokolnicki, Sr., USMC retired. Mrs. Sokolnicki was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph Church in Ansonia, a charter member of the Ansonia Hilltop Civic Association and Hilltop Hose Co. No. 5 Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid organic gardener studying under internationally known Ruth Stout and an award winning quilter studying under Ruth Ovesney. Survivors include her son Edward J. Sokolnicki, Jr. of Ansonia, 11 Godchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 50 years, she was predeceased by her brother Joseph Sroka and sisters Matilda Greski, Mary B. Sroka and Genevieve Koval. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2015, at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 32 Jewett St., Ansonia. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Derby. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
