Obituary of Lester Kiehn

KIEHN- Lester L. Kiehn, age 73, of Shelton, CT., died November 13, 2007, at Griffin Hospital, Derby. Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 18, 1933, he was a long time resident of New York, and Long Island before moving to Shelton six years ago. He was a US Army Ranger Veteran of the Korean War and later earned a BA in Education and a MA in Marine Biology from SUNY Stony Brook. Mr. Kiehn first worked as a television and radio broadcast engineer in the late 1950s, then as an air traffic controller for the Grumman Aerospace Co. on LI. He retired as a science teacher after many years at the Rocky Point Jr. & Sr. High School, Rocky Point, NY. Mr. Kiehn also pursued a career in marine biology working as a marine researcher for the Okeanos Marine Research Facility and was a member of the Advisory Board of CRESLI. Most recently, Mr. Kiehn worked as a docent for the Beardsley Zoo. He is survived by his children, Lester E. Kiehn and his wife, Lisa of Troy, NY, Desiree P. DAgostino and her husband, Sabatino of Waltham, MA, and Sabrina H. Fry of Oregon City, OR; cherished grandchildren Breanne Fry of OR and Francesco DAgostino of MA; and his beloved friend and companion, Carol Eisenberg of Shelton. Mr. Kiehn was predeceased by a son-in-law, Dale Fry. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 4:00PM, in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beardsley Zoo in care of the CT Zoological Society, 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06610.
